Product Description There are plenty of books about coping with adversity. But isn't until now, with WHO SURVIVES, that we discover the human factors that determine survival. It's a combination instruction book and security blanket that blends compelling true stories with cutting-edge science to deliver some of the most important lessons we'll ever need to learn.
The book will: --list the most important traits necessary for survival (e.g., adaptability, tenacity, faith) --identify the 5 types of survivors --debunk myths (like only the strong survive), explore the frontiers of survival science (How much strain and punishment can a human body endure?), and introduce readers to counterintuitive thinking (Ever heard of posttraumatic growth?) --provide a Survivors Tool Kit, including an online test that measures one's Survivor's Quotient
Each one of us eventually joins the club of millions who face life's inescapable tribulations and tragedies. WHO SURVIVES is the companion we need to prepare us for and guide us through the worst.

Fascinating Reading August 13, 2010 Craig Connell (Lockport, NY USA) Some of the stories in here are beyond incredible, but all true. I found myself time-after-time putting the book down and picturing what was going on during one of these disasters than people lived through and what happened to them during and after their amazing ordeal.
In addition to inspiring individual stories, the book is extremely thought-provoking. Are people who survive when everyone around them is dying just plain lucky? Did God intervene? Did their attitudes make the difference between life and death? Did their attention to detail or intelligence mean anything?
Where's the safest place to be if you had a heart attack? What's the best seat in an airplane, if it's going to crash? How much time do you have to escape a burning building, airplane, a car, a train? What are you odds of survival on a number of things?
There are so many topics in here, so much fascination information and so many dramatic, incredible stories of survival, you spend hours just shaking your head in amazement reading this book.
A must read if this subject interests you August 9, 2010 vks My voracious reading habits focus on an obsession with non-fiction survivor accounts. There are many excellent books written about true heroes - both historical and current, and accounts of unimaginable circumstances from which people survive.
I count The Surviors Club amongst them - in fact, at the top of the list. Most tell the story of a survival, but not only does Sherwood accomplish that, with mulitple accounts, he offers a valid analysis of why and how it was accomplished. If nothing else, I feel stronger and more able to be counted as a survivor should an unknown situation present itself in my future.

Must read August 7, 2010 Daniel Jonathan Bingham The information found in this book could one day save my life. The book helped to identify my strengths & weaknesses.
Little Info Here Should Be New to Readers August 4, 2010 Donna Goldman (South Florida) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I don't understand all the 5 star ratings for this rather ordinary and unremarkable book. Sure it contains good information but only if you haven't been paying attention to may others who have previously provided the same information in a multitude of forms (e.g. books, TV, radio). The only good thing about this book was the very clever title and cover.
Great Book August 1, 2010 Anonymous (Connecticut) This is a great book in the expanding field of survival psychology (for lack of a better term). I wouldn't chose this as my first book in the field, because I think that Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why is really the top, with this coming in a close and respectable second. The survival personality internet test is very neat and may provide you with some insights into your personality. I thought it was pretty accurate. For fans of Deep Survival: Who Lives, Who Dies, and Why, this is a can't miss. After this book, I'd recommend The Unthinkable: Who Survives When Disaster Strikes - and Why, which is good but comes in third.
Now I'm on to Survivor Personality: Why Some People Are Stronger, Smarter, and More Skillful at Handling Life's Difficulties...and How You Can Be, Too. Maybe after that I'll have to revise the list!
